Things are perfect except that Alex is struggling to find a venue that’s not a 24/7 chapel with a connected annulment center. There are some hilarious scenes when the ladies get dragged into sex shops by Skye and Daisy. Alex flies in their parents for the occasion and the girls have fun dress shopping.
They plan a joint bachelor/bachelorette trip to Vegas with all their friends and while there, decide to get married now. It’s heartwarming to see their friends and family step up to support them and Lance in particular earns a special place in Violet’s heart because he avenges his captain at the cost of a five-game suspension but has no regrets. The immediate aftermath of Alex’s injury is probably as heavy as this series and it’s emotional but also a lovely testament to Violet and Alex’s love. She realizes that putting off the wedding is the last thing she wants because life can change in an instant and she truly can’t wait to be Mrs. The moms ignore him but when Alex suffers a severe, potentially career-ending injury, Violet’s shaken. But once Miller shows him a video of Skye and Sidney’s wedding, Alex steps in to shield her from Daisy and Skye because it’s obvious why Violet opposes anything extravagant.
Violet refuses to discuss what happened so while Alex is sympathetic, he’s also stressed that the wedding planning is going nowhere. She wants something small with just their closest family and friends because she’s terrified of humiliating herself after what happened at her mom’s wedding. The engagement is dragging on because their moms are driving Violet crazy with the wedding planning. These are two of my favorite characters and I couldn’t wait to read more about them. I was really excited to read this because it’s a sequel to the first book so a continuation of Violet and Alex’s story. Or when Violet stops getting hives every time someone brings up the wedding, and their mothers stop colluding on stadium sized venues. So it makes complete sense that Violet Hall can’t wait to nail him down to the matrimonial mattress and become Mrs. In addition to being an amazing hockey player, he’s an incurable romantic with an XL heart, and an XXL hockey stick in his pants. Being engaged to Alex Waters, team captain and the highest paid NHL player in the league, is awesome.
